Obituary of Hillis Conolly
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Hillis Conolly, a pillar of the Shawville community, who left us unexpectedly but peacefully at home at the age of 88. Hillis leaves behind a legacy of hard work, dedication and profound respect. Born and raised on the 7th line of Clarendon, Hillis, known widely as a devoted dairy farmer, spent a lifetime tending to the land and building a highly coveted registered purebred Holstein dairy herd that was his pride and joy. After attending the agricultural program at Macdonald College, he dedicated himself to the agricultural pursuits that defined his life’s work. His tireless efforts not only contributed to the prosperity of his own farm but also enriched his neighbours and agricultural wisdom and practices in the area. Beyond his work on the farm, Hillis was a cherished and highly respected member of the community, admired by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His participation and contributions to the Rotary Club, Agricultural Society and the Shawville United Church were highly valued and appreciated. He approached these activities with the same dedication and passion that he brought to his farm and family. The same can be said about his passion and enjoyment he garnered from his golf and golfing buddies. His warmth, generosity and unwavering integrity left an indelible mark on the hearts of those around him. He embodied the values of hard work, honesty and compassion, serving as an inspiration and role model to all who crossed his path. Hillis was predeceased by his father, Lloyd Conolly, mother, Gertrude Conolly (nee Graham), brother Graham Conolly, sister-in-law Shirley Conolly and niece, Connie Conolly. He leaves behind a beloved sister Mary Lou Sly (Neil), special friend, Martha Ethier, nieces Beverly Anne Brown (Dane), Heather Sly (Matt), Tracy Beeman (John) and Terry Conolly (Jamie), many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and countless other relatives and close friends. Hillis will be dearly missed by his loving family, friends, neighbours and all those whose lives he touched. Though he may no longer be with us, his kindness, generosity and sense of humour will be missed by all that knew him.
