Obituary of Elsie Meier

On the morning of Friday, April 12, 2024, Elsie Meier (Lathem) was welcomed into her heavenly home at the age of 94. She was a cherished pillar of our family, a beacon of love and kindness, whose warmth touched all those around her.

Born on September 15, 1929, in Caldwell, QC, Elsie lived a life marked by generosity and service. She dedicated herself to her husband and family, raising her children with unwavering support and boundless affection. Her strong faith in God was the foundation upon which her family grew and thrived. Elsie was a dedicated member of Bethel Pentecostal Church, committed to teaching Sunday School and serving as kitchen coordinator. Many will remember Elsie’s business, The Fashion Shop, which was located in the W.A. Hodgins Plaza for over 20 years.

She leaves behind a legacy of love and memories that will be forever etched into the hearts of her family. Loving mother to Steve (Judy), Cathy and David (Ute). Cherished Nanny to Brent, Andrew (Krista), Katelyne, Daniel, Victoria and Jeremy. Special great-grandmother to Ryan, Owen and Raelyn.

Elsie was predeceased by her husband Otto Meier, parents Alexander and Emma Lathem, sisters Ada Lathem, Rita Strutt (Melvin), Faye Sparling (Clarence) and infant brother Hubert. She will be greatly missed by her nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at Hayes Funeral Home, 134 Centre Street, Shawville, QC on Friday, April 19 from 1 – 5  pm (no evening viewing) and Saturday, April 20 from 11 am – 12:45 pm. A celebration of Elsie's life will be held at 1:00 pm at Bethel Pentecostal Church, 209 Centre Street, Shawville, QC.  Interment at Maple Grove Cemetery following the service.

We welcome all who knew and loved her to join us in honoring her memory. A luncheon will be served in the church basement following the committal service.   In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bethel Pentecostal Church.
