Obituary of Sandra Murray (nee Horner)
Sandra Murray (nee Horner), passed away peacefully on November 26, 2022 with her family by her side.
Beloved wife of Barrie Murray, loving mother to Tim (Kathy), Nancy (Ken Wilson) and Vicki Chamberlain (Ken Polson). Proud grandmother to Justin, Hailey and Jared, Andrew, Laura and Jake, Jenna and Leah. Sandra was predeceased by her parents, Leslie and Hazel (Hodgins) Horner. Sister to Gail (late Don Gamble), and sister-in-law to the late Laird Murray (late Sheila, Ellen), Geri Murray (late Bryan), Darleen Murphy (Bert), Bill Murray (Ann), Lorraine Hodgins (Basil), Terry Murray (Linda), Laurie Barber (Jerry), Karen Campbell (Terry) and Kim Murray (Mike Malette) and aunt to many nieces and nephews.
Sandra worked many years at the Pontiac Community Hospital, retiring as the Paymaster, but her true passion was her community and helping others. Sandra proudly served as councillor for the Municipality of Shawville for several years before becoming its first female Mayor, serving 2 terms before retiring in fall of 2021 due to health reasons. Sandra was a long time Lionette, and member of Shawville United Church Women, Unit 6, as well as serving on many other committees and projects over the years. Her strong leadership and commitment to helping others will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
The family would like to thank the staff at Pontiac Community Hospital for the great care Sandra received at different times over the past year as well as to the staff and doctors in the ICU at Hull Hospital.
Friends may call at Hayes Funeral Home, 134 Centre Street, Shawville, Quebec on Thursday, December 1, 2022 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral service to be held Friday, December 2 at 11 a.m. at the Shawville United Church. Interment to follow in Maple Grove Cemetery immediately after the service. Friends and family are invited to stay and enjoy a light lunch and fellowship at the church hall.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Pontiac Community Hospital Foundation or Shawville United Church.
