I was most fortunate to have met Wendy way back in ‘95 on a crazy bus tour that departed from Cairns and made its way down to Sydney over more than two weeks. We instantly made a strong connection from the very first day and became life long friends. We shared so much in such a short period of time and spent pretty much every moment of that trip together. In a lot of ways it felt like we had known each other forever. As one of the few Aussies on the tour, Wendy quickly taught me many differences between Canadians and Americans, because I naively thought at the time that you were very similar - to me, you all sounded the same and therefore thought/acted the same (Sorry! But now way better educated!)
We were young, stayed up way too late and drank some great beer together. Wendy was the absolute best listener, had a brilliant sense of humour and we shared such an amazing time together. I particularly remember having to say goodbye at the Sydney interstate train depot as Wendy was travelling on to my home town of Melbourne while I had further time in Sydney. We were both devastated but decided to laugh through our tears by Vogueing Madonna style as the train departed until we could no longer see each other. We didn’t care what anyone thought of the spectacle that we must have made…
We remained in phone and email contact over the years and I adored the annual Christmas cards of Annie and spectacular e-cards.
Wendy definitely had the gift of being a great friend. So much so, that she kept the news of her health a secret to me until late last year because she knew I was going through some difficult times and didn’t want to burden me with her truth……. I did my best to “keep vogueing” and send her happy emails (her communication of choice) though my tears until she no longer responded and I found out that she had passed.
I will always remember how incredibly funny, loyal and thoughtful Wendy was and our beautiful friendship that stood the test of time after so little actual time together.
Sending love from Down Under to Joyce, cousin Ann, family and friends through this most difficult time
(I have been unable to find a link to the service. I am in Melbourne Australia. I would be most grateful if there is a recording, that someone could send it to riccirailton@yahoo.com.au)

Wendy and I shared a friendship of over fifty years. We met in grade two, square danced in the Muriel Imison group and went to elementary and high school together in Shawville. We kept in touch over the years in Kingston, Quebec City and more recently and frequently in Ottawa. We had lots of great visits and often talked about our times in Shawville and shared stories about our adult lives. Wendy had a fantastic memory and would always remember the smallest details from our past. She was also incredibly generous with her kindness and help to both family and friends. Wendy was an extremely loyal and wonderful friend and I will miss her terribly forever.

Wendy was a great friend. So many good times we’re had with her and the group of friends we all hung out with when she lived in Winnipeg while working at Great-West Life. She put on these amazing Christmas parties where we all had to dress up in formal wear. These parties always included her delicious homemade desserts. She was a kind soul land will be greatly missed. Rest In Peace Wendy. You were taken from us much too young.

My deepest condolences. She was a great person I was honoured to know her and have her in my life. So kind and caring a great sense of humour. She would correct my spelling for me. Which was appreciated.
I first meet Wendy in Montreal I saw those beautiful eyes and said I need to speak to that lady. Wendy also took me to my first hockey game. It was great night.
She was so beautiful inside and outside I will miss her ever day. The world has lost a Angel and the senators have lost a #1 fan.
Rest In Peace Wendy.
Miss you.

Mrs.Hodgins & The Hodgins family,
Saddened and shocked as I read of Wendy’s passing! Was honoured to have her in my French class at PPHS.She was a fine young lady and a very pleasant student. I am sure that she leaves a big void in the hearts of many.
Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers.
Deepest Condolences

May long weekend 1978 Gr. 11 with friend Jane in Waltham, Quebec.
Wendy loved our puppy Sam. She enjoyed some canoeing and even roller blading in Pembroke. This photo was turned into a very large painting by my daughter Diana and won an award at the University of Ottawa in 2010.

High School: I’ll always remember Wendy’s sweet, gentle character, love of music and sense of humour. As a teen, she’d head to Ottawa on various weekend shopping trips and bring back many small records of the latest hits on CFRA. Then we would dance around her living room. She taught me how to put on makeup. She showed me a great rice pudding recipe I never forgot. We ate the whole bowl immediately. It never made it to dinner time! She enjoyed working at the hockey arena and chatting with her many Shawville friends. When I was 22 she contacted me in Ottawa and we got together a couple times. As to be expected, we went different pathways in our adult lives. When I touched base with her again I was saddened to learn of her illness. I wanted to share more times with her but I am thankful for having known her in the various moments we were given. I last saw her December 15, 2021 and was happy to have had that brief time to see her once more. She was a great person worth knowing. I will miss her as many more will as well. Until we meet again, Wendy, in that forever place. Love, Jane
