Obituary of Jean-Guy Lariviere

It is with a heavy heart the family of Jean-Guy Lariviere announce his passing on November 26th, 2018 at the Shawville hospital. Jean-Guy was born and raised in St-Isadore of Prescott, the beloved son of the late Pierre Lariviere and Florestine Léger, predeceased by his siblings, Fernande, Laurette, Huguette, Raymond and Jean-Pierre. He leaves behind his brothers Bruno and Gaston and his sister Pierrette.

Jean-Guy came to Pontiac county in 1947, as an apprentice electrician where he met his lifelong partner and the love of his life Annette Gravelle. They were married on November 10, 1949 and lived in Campbell’s Bay where they raised their six children Robert (Debbie), Denis (Sharon) Guy (Nancy), Colleen (Brian), Gerard (Natalie) and Lise (David). They were blessed with 14 grandchildren, late Jessica, Natalie, Raymond (Nicole) , Pierre, Robert (Christine), Kerry-Ann(Guy) , Jason (Tammy), Serena (Tim), Timothy (Ellie), Lianne (Richard), Joshua ( Robin ) and Faith and with 17 wonderful great-grandchildren, Jean-Philippe, Émilie, Jordan, Alexa, Victoria, Kylah, Ethan, Pierre- Luc, Ranilo, Noah, Tyson, Jayden, Marc-Antoine, Alicia, Brielle, Hailie and Luc.

Jean-Guy worked for J.E. O’Neil Electrical contractor, as an electrician from 1952 to 1958 and then at Bristol mines from 1958 to 1962

In 1962 he leaped into business and became co-owner of L&M Electronics till 1976. He brought television into the home of many local families for the very first time.

In 1970, he jumped into politics and was elected as Member of the National Assembly where he served the people of the county of Pontiac-Temiscamingue with great pride and dedication for 11 years.

Several years after he retired from politics, he purchased and restored the home of the late John Bryson in Fort-Coulonge, where he lived with his wife from 1989 till 2012.

In 2012 , moved to the Friends of St-Joseph manor in Campbell’s Bay.

Jean Guy was extremely proud of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.   They were the center of his world. His strong values, his respect and courtesy to others were his greatest qualities.

We wish to express our thanks to Dr. Luc Coté and Dr. Ruth Vanderstelt as well as to the nursing and caregiving staff of the Shawville hospital for the excellent care they provided. We also wish to express a special thank-you to Sandra Farrell and Peggy Frost and to the staff at the Friends of St-Joseph Manor for the special care they provided in the last months and weeks of our father’s life.

Friends may call at the Hayes Funeral Home, 134 Centre Street, Shawville, Quebec on Sunday, December 2, 2018 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday, December 3, 2018 from 9:30-10 a.m.  Funeral mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. John the Evangelist Church, Campbell’s Bay, Quebec on Monday, December 3, 2018 at 11 a.m.  Celebration of life for this beautiful man will follow at the R.A. Hall, Campbell’s Bay, Quebec.  Donations to the Friends of St-Joseph Manor would be appreciated.

 C'est avec le cœur lourd que la famille de Jean-Guy Larivière annonce son décès le 26 novembre 2018 à l'hôpital de Shawville. Jean-Guy est né et a grandi à St-Isidore de Prescott, fils bien-aimé de feu Pierre Larivière et Florestine Léger, précédé par ses frères et soeurs: Fernande, Laurette, Huguette, Raymond et Jean-Pierre. Il laisse dans le deuil ses frères Bruno, Gaston et sa soeur Pierrette. Jean-Guy est arrivé dans le comté de Pontiac en tant qu'apprenti électricien, en 1947 où il a rencontré sa conjointe et l'amour de sa vie, Annette Gravelle. Ils se sont mariés le 10 novembre 1949 et ils ont vécus à Campbell’s Bay où ils ont élevé leurs six enfants, Robert (Debbie), Denis (Sharon), Guy (Nancy), Colleen (Brian), Gérard (Natalie) et Lise (David). Ils ont été béni avec 14 petits-enfants: feu Jessica, Natalie, Raymond (Nicole), Pierre, Robert (Christine), Kerry-Ann (Guy), Jason (Tammy), Serena (Tim), Timothy (Ellie), Lianne (Richard), Joshua (Robin) et Faith ainsi que 17 magnifiques arrières-petits-enfants, Jean-Philippe, Émilie, Jordan, Alexa, Victoria, Kylah, Ethan, Pierre-Luc, Ranilo, Noah, Tyson, Jayden, Marc-Antoine, Alicia, Brielle, Hailie et Luc. Jean-Guy a travaillé comme électricien pour J. E. O’Neil contracteur de 1952 à 1958 ensuite, dans les mines de Bristol de 1958 à 1962. En 1962, il s’est lancé en affaire et est devenu copropriétaire de L & M Electronics jusqu'en 1976. Il a introduit pour la première fois la télévision dans les maisons de nombreuses familles de la région. En 1970, il s'est lancé en politique et a été élu membre de l'Assemblée Nationale, où il a servi les résidents du comté de Pontiac-Témiscamingue avec fierté et dévouement pendant onze ans. Plusieurs années après sa retraite de la vie politique, il a acheté et restauré la maison de feu John Bryson à Fort-Coulonge, où il a vécu avec son épouse de 1989 à 2012. En 2012, sa conjointe et lui ont déménagé à la résidence « Les Amis du manoir St-Joseph » à Campbell’s Bay. Jean Guy était extrêmement fier de ses enfants, petits-enfants et arrières petits-enfants. Ses valeurs familiales, son respect et sa courtoisie envers son prochain étaient certainement parmi ses plus grandes qualités. Nous souhaitons exprimer nos remerciements aux médecins Luc Coté et Ruth Vanderstelt, ainsi qu’au personnel infirmier et soignant de l’hôpital de Shawville pour les excellents soins. Nous souhaitons également exprimer nos remerciements à Sandra Farrell et Peggy Frost ainsi qu’au personnel des Amis du Manoir St-Joseph pour les soins spéciaux qu’ils ont fournis au cours des derniers mois de la vie de notre père. La famille recevra les condoléances à la Maison Funéraire Hayes, 134 Centre, Shawville, Québec le dimanche 2 décembre 2018 de 14h à 16h et 19h à 21h, aussi le lundi 3 décembre 2018 de 9h à 9h30 suivit de la messe des funérailles qui sera célébrée à l’église St-Jean l’Évangéliste, Campbell’s Bay, Québec à 11h. Une célébration de la vie de cet homme exceptionnel suivra à la Salle récréative de Campbell’s Bay, Québec. Des dons aux Amis du Manoir St-Joseph seraient appréciées.
