My deepest condolences to all of Ernie's family and friends. Although it has been a while I will never forget how great it was to have Ernie as a bus driver! He always put our safety first, including crossing the road. He knew how to make us laugh and was always willing to wait a few extra seconds when we were running late. I've known Ernie all my life, from the time we lived on the farm and used to go to Zion Lutheran. We often visited and Ernie always reminded me about picking potatoes together. I think I might have been 5 or 6 at the time and he would have been about 11 or 12. It was always a pleasure to have a chat and reminisce when we come home for a visit (like at Oktoberfest or grave decoration Sunday).
It's sad to lose another cousin and I'll miss him the next time we're in the area.

I was heart broken to hear the news of Ernie’s passing. As you know, Ernie was a big part of my childhood/teenage years. Being the last kid on the school bus, I would always move up to the front sea,t after everyone got off and we would have a daily chat about random subjects.

I truly enjoyed talking with him recently when I last visited him in the hospital.
We chatted about Dickie and the years of him driving me to high school on the bus. While parked in Campbell's Bay waiting for the transfer students, he would allow me to get off the bus so I could visit my grandmother who lived across the street. Many times he'd be blowing the horn waiting for me to return. I'd offer him a piece of my treat I received from her and all would be ok.
