Rayburn is my cousin. I only met Rayburn three times when I visited him at my Uncle Allan's farm.I visited Dolly in July 2020 when she was residing in Campells Bay.
Rest in peace Rayburn!

My sincere sympathies to Rayburn's family. He was a special man, and like so many others, I have fond memories of his kind nature and infectious laugh. Chording along to Rayburn's fine fiddle playing was priceless.
Then there was that time the hay wagon suddenly began careening down the hill out of control, with me sitting atop the hay load. As the wagon flung from one side of the road to the other, I clung to the bales for dear life while watching Rayburn desperately trying to regain control of the tractor and wagon at the helm. He had only one very brief opportunity to glance back, and our eyes locked for a split second. It was a tense moment, but his great impulses won the battle that day. Afterwards, it occurred to me just how shakin' up he was about that incident, and I sensed his great concern for my safety.
It's a great story of how life can turn in a split second, but through great determination and the human spirit, we defied the odds.
The wonderful memories of that lovely farm are precious to me. The cream house, feedin' the pigs, Dolly milking the cows by hand when I was a wee lad, the little chicks in the house under the heat lamp, Lee jumping the fence with the bull on his tail and laughin' all the while, or him wrestling with the calves in the barn, or fishin' for bass at Mud lake.....
One of my favorite memories was watching Rayburn and Lee repairing the tractor one peaceful summer evening next to the workshop. A single light bulb above the shop entrance created the perfect setting on that magical Saturday night. Another light inside the shop lit up the workbench, the tools and tractor parts.
I remember how calmly they worked together that evening. They were in no rush. Rather, they offered up suggestions to one another on how best to approach the problem. If I recall correctly, I left for home (the cottage) around 10 pm that evening, and perhaps an hour and a half later, Dolly and Rayburn joined the festivities at our place, and out came the fiddle. Good Times.
Thanks for the fond memories Rayburn,
Al Soucie

We have many fond memories from the 70's and 80''s when Rayburn still played the fiddle, and I always considered it a great privilege to accompany him on guitar. I still have tapes from some of those occasions and will have to give them a listen for old times sake. Rest in peace, my friend.
Our sincere condolences to Dolly and the Gray family.
