Obituary of Lester James McCann

Proud son of the late Peter Hannaway McCann and Annie Craig, passed away comfortably at the Pontiac Community Hospital, Shawville, Quebec on Sunday, January 22, 2017. Beloved husband for 68 years of Jean Elizabeth Dunbar. Left to mourn are children Linda (Bill Gilmour), Peter, Eddie (Dianne Martineau), Paul, Craig, Tom (Cheryl Stanley ), 24 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. Pre-deceased by daughter Jayne, son Michael, sister Lois (Lloyd Kensley ), brothers Gil and Keith and great granddaughter Kaitlyn. Lester was a forty year member of the Quyon business community, member of Charlie Lake and Lake Dumont clubs, municipal council member, local school board chairman and was a charter member of the Quyon Lions Club. Friends may call at Hayes Funeral Home, 1040 Clarendon St, Quyon, Quebec on Thursday, January 26, 2017 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. and Friday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Funeral Friday to St. Mary’s Church, Quyon for Mass at 11:00 a.m. Spring Interment St. Mary’s Cemetery. A Lions Club Memorial Service will be held Thursday evening at 8:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to Pontiac Community Hospital Foundation-Physiotherapy Department, the Ottawa Humane Society in honour of his cat Miss Molly or the Quyon Lions Club Building Fund would be appreciated. We would like to especially thank Dr. Pascal Croteau, Dr. Ruth Vander Stelt and the wonderful staff at the hospital for their great care during the last few difficult months. We would also like to thank Dad's many lifelong friends, especially Ian and Mary Nute, Francis and Elizabeth O'Donnell with a special thank you to Laurie and Mona Mackechnie for their many calls, visits and drives over the last few months.
