My sincere sympathy to the Attfield & Senack families, especially GaryJr & Beverley for the loss oft their Firefighter Hero.
I did’nt know Gord but heard a few great stories about him.I am sure at least half of them were true.
His wonderful wife Angela was the daughter of my. 1st cousin Shirley Senack. We grew up together in Otter Lake.
Every little boy wants to be Fireman, but Gord was the real one. My work in Intensive Care Nursing exposed me to a few Firemen, & all of us Nurses knew they were Heroes. I am sure St.Peter has a special job for Gord.
May an Angel’s hand hold and guide you through these sad times

A most special brother-in-law, so many happy memories of life intertwined with Angela, Gary Jr. and Beverly. Holidays and weddings and parties.
A multifaceted man, safety was his first concern.
His love for his family his utmost priority..
I will always remember the absolute adoration visible on his face while holding his grandchildren.
I feel very blessed that Gary was part of my family.
May you have eternal rest with Angela by your side.
Hugs and kisses. Elaine, Henry and family.

I see on ROFFA that Gary passed, how terrible. We worked together at #1 Stn, Churchill Ave. And finally got to know one another.Patsy and I would drive up to the service but don't think our old bones would handle it . We are very pleased to know that he is laid to rest with the love of his life. Our hearts are with the family at this sad time.

During the last funeral Gary was on one side of the room because, as he later told me, he wasn't sure how to be helpful. I joined him because I was feeling the same way and we got to talking. We agreed that for the next funeral we would bring a chess/checkers set with an offer to play to everyone who was also feeling this way.
Somehow I think he would appreciate the irony of the situation. I am really going to miss him.

To the Attfield Family,
My sincerest condolences, thoughts and prayers to you. Gary and I came on the OFD together in that class of 29, on that very snowy Monday, of January 10th, 1977. With 29 guys, there were lots of personalities and lots of memories from those 6 weeks we learnt and bonded together. Gary was always quiet, but a very nice individual in a sea of strong personalities. However, with his quick wit, he showed he could more than hold his own when things got a little crazy.
Gary and I were both on B Platoon at the start. On our third rotation, we both were assigned to old No. 3 at Cumberland and Clarence. A very busy station and he and I went through some of our first fires there, together. It was a great place to be, and a great time to be there. The station and crew had a LOT of character. We both learnt a lot, together.
After our rotation there was over, we got transferred to different stations, and then at some point Gary got transferred to D Platoon. Unfortunately, due to this, I never ran into Gary much after that, until we both were on the job much longer. Gary was still on D, but I had been transferred to C, and worked overtime on D several times and was able to work with Gary at a few fires. Always a great guy to have there. He was still quiet, but that quick wit and sparkle in his eye was still there, after all the years. He was a gentleman, a very well-liked Captain, and I'm very saddened to hear of his passing. RIP Gary. You will always be part of "Us 29."

On behalf of the family of Carl LaGroix, I would like to extend our sincere condolences on the death of Gary. We remember him from family events growing up and at curling bonspiels/playdowns over the years. A fierce competitor on the ice, it was always great to run into him.

Dearest Attfields,
Gary will always have a special place in my heart. I remember him as ever watchful over us as children, quiet and observant. As I grew up I came to know a different man. In my adult life I knew him also as extraordinarily generous and kind with a mischievous sense of humour. He was always listening even when you thought he wasn't and ready to impart a witty comment. Seeing him over the last three years with his grandchildren showed me yet another side of him. He was also silly, tender, doting, and young in spirit.
From making funny voices and silly faces at Parker, Cecelia, and Benjamin to reading quietly in a comfy corner or jamming with the guys Uncle Gary was a wonderful person and I was lucky to have him in my life. He may have been my uncle through marriage but he will always be cherished and loved as family.
My deepest condolences.
