Obituary of Elaine Sloan Brisson
It is with deep sadness that the family of Elaine Marguerite Sloan Brisson announces her passing on Monday, October 24th , in her 87th year. Elaine was born the 4th child of Mildred Hearty and Frederick Sloan on the 23rd day of June 1935, in Sudbury Ontario. Elaine grew up in Sudbury, and as a young girl, spent summers in Vinton, Quebec, eventually marrying and moving with her family to Ottawa in the early 60’s. She enjoyed vacationing with friends in sunny Port Charlotte, Florida, and with her siblings and their families in Manitoulin Island, Ontario. In 1988, Elaine moved to Aylmer, Quebec to be closer to her children and young grandchildren.
Left to mourn the loss of their wonderful Mother are her children, Janie Weatherall (Bob), Richard Brisson (Louise), and Kathleen Soucy. Elaine was the cherished Grandmother of Jason Weatherall (Alison), David Weatherall (Casey), Vanessa Brisson (Zach), Jasmine Soucy (Diarmuid), Lilian Soucy (Alex), and Great Grandmother of Abagail, William, Samuel, Olivia, Élie, Calista, and Ernie. She is survived by her brother, Sherman Sloan (Frances) of Sudbury, and her sister, Marlene Harvey (the late Clare) of Beaton. Pre-deceased by her parents, brothers Denzel, and Wayne (Marie), sister Linda (the late Fred), infant sister Glenda and by her ex-husband Fernand Brisson, father of her children. Brothers and sisters in law - the late Ernest (Therese) Brisson, the late Theresa Lavoie, the late Edgar and Lorraine Brisson, the late Laurent and Micheline Brisson, the late Diane (Raymond) Blais, Betty (the late Ted) Wright, and brother in law, Gilbert (Danielle) Brisson. She is remembered fondly by sister in law Fern Luesby Sloan and Louise Guertin Brisson, brother in law Roger Parent, son in law Richard Soucy, her special cousin Phyllis Sloan, and 47 nieces and nephews, some sadly gone, but all of whom she loved.
Elaine was smart, sweet, kind, and fiercely loyal to her people whom she loved with all her pure beautiful heart. Possessed of a great sense of humour, she loved music and family gatherings and was a pleasure to be around. Calm and graceful through good times and bad, she was a wonderful example of quiet courage, strength, wisdom, humility, and individuality. Her legacy will live on. She will never be forgotten. We sincerely thank all members of the Pontiac Community Hospital Long Term Care Team, Shawville, whose loving and tireless care of our precious Elaine Sloan was such a gift to her in her final years. We are forever in your debt.
Elaine will be laid to rest on Saturday, November 5th 2022 in St-Edward's Cemetery, Aylmer Road, Bristol, Quebec at 2 p.m. followed by a gathering of family and friends at Pine Lodge.
