Obituary of Russell Stewart
Passed away suddenly at his home on September 30th, 2014 at the age of 62 years. Beloved companion of Valarie and husband of Kathleen Stewart. Predeceased by his loving parents, Arthur and June (nee Bulcock) Stewart. Survived by his brothers and sisters Gregory (Helene), Douglas (Mary), Donna (Ron) and Judy (Ken), as well as 9 nieces & nephews and 15 great nieces & nephews. Russell worked for Bell Canada and held various positions as Technician, Steward, Chief Steward and VP of CEP Local 27. He was also Union Councillor and Arbitrator. Russ was a delegate to Toronto and York Region Labour Council and Ontario Federation of Labour and was a strong activist for labour rights and social justice. Russ was also a member of the Council of Canadians and lobbyist for the Ontario minimum wage. Russ was a real cat lover as he worked with Animal Aide Pontiac and shared his home with numerous rescue cats. Much loved and respected, Russ fought the good fight for what he believed in and for the rights of others - both human and animal. Russ enjoyed life fully and will be sorely missed by his family, friends, colleagues at Bell and union brothers and sisters. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation or service. In lieu of flowers, donations to Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada or any charitable organization of your choice will be appreciated.
