My condolences, I just learned of this. I've been missing my dear friend - I was having a lovely sangria this week with friend and stopped for a moment thinking of the many times Robert Bertrand and I had done the same...in Winnipeg, in Morocco at CAP where he kept an eye for me (I was travellling alone!) in St Andrews, after ceremony at Indigenous Peoples Day. I am sorry to learn of the passing of Bob Bertrand. We served in the House of Commons the same 11 year period and for part of that time, when I was Minister of Defence, Bob, was my Parliamentary Secretary. He served with distinction. I am most grateful for the support he provided to me, to our dedicated men and women of the Canadian Forces, and in his service to our country.
Defence is not an easy portfolio but Bob's smile and gentle words lowered the tension.
I extend condolences to his family and friends. We will all miss him but we will remember the good times.

My deepest condolences to Robert's family and friends.
I 1st met Robert when he gave me a job, he is the one that helped me to kick start my career in Government and I will be eternally grateful to him. He was the best boss I ever had, no one else could hold a candle to this great man.
He was one of the good ones that left way too early.

I was fortunate to serve as MP at the House of Commons during the same years as Bob, and we were both members of the Quebec Caucus.
My memories of Bob are of a warm and popular friend of all who knew him - an authentic colleague dedicated to the citizens of his riding, and more importantly, to the common good.
In these days, when both politics and society tend to be partisan and divisive, Bob showed a genuine empathy towards colleagues and adversaries alike.
It is a pity that he was not given more years to contribute to family and community.
I would like to express my heartfelt sympathy to all his loved ones.

My deepest Sympathies to Sandy and the whole family on the passing of Chief Bertrand. I only have fond memories of him and the many jokes he shared with me and all the staff at CAP. He always had a smile and was so very kind to us all. I remember him making his daily rounds to everyones office to wish us a good day. I had the pleasure of working professionally with Bob during his tenure as National Chief of the Congress of Aboriginal Peoples. The world is a lesser place without Bob. He was a person of warmth, great integrity, and impeccable character. I can hardly believe this is true, not very long ago we met at the grocery store and had a wonderful conversation. Bob has been a friend for a long time. I remember him accepting a painting from my daughter Hilary at his parliamentary office and displaying it with pride. So many stories, so many laughs, he will be missed. To the Bertrand family, I want you to know that I am keeping you all in my heart and prayers during this very difficult time. It also makes me realize the importance of enjoying each and every day, we never know what tomorrow holds. Bob enjoyed life and all those who knew him enjoyed his presence.
