Obituary of Lloyd James Newberry
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Lloyd Newberry on Saturday May 1, 2021 in his 89th year. Born and raised on the family farm on Calumet Island, he was the son of the late Alfred Newberry and the late Léa Brousseau. He leaves behind his loving wife of 62 years, Margo (nee St-Pierre), his children André (Belinda Cahill), Louise (Jean-Pierre Landry) and Marcel (Lisa Fletcher), his grandchildren (his Angels as he called them) Myriame, Maryse and Jean-Michel. Dear brother of Richard (late Colette Gagnon), Jeanne (late Guy Mallette), Cletus (late Joyce Rainville), Thérèse (Gerald Lemay) and predeceased by his twin Léo and brother Reginald. Brother-in-law of Constance, Gérard (Joan), Paulette (Jean-Guy), Jean-Charles (Annette), Hélène (Maurice), Réjean (Pauline), Suzanne and the late Renée and late Robert (Ann). He will be sadly missed by many nieces and nephews with special love for Natalie and Danica.
Lloyd left home at an early age to go and work in the mines in Cobalt Ontario and returned to the area a few years later to continue his career at Hilton Mines in Bristol where he worked until its closing in 1977. He then was hired by Consolidated Bathurst where he worked until his retirement. He also owned and operated a corner store in Bryson with his wife and children for close to 25 years. He was very dedicated to his parish where he volunteered to many tasks during most of his life. Lloyd was one of the main pillars in the success of the annual Bryson Lions Picnic by helping in the kitchen to prepare and cook their famous sea pie, which duty he took much pride in accomplishing. He was a discrete and soft-spoken man and very family oriented who will be remembered by many whose lives he has touched.
For those wishing to do so, donations can be made to Ottawa University Heart Institute, the Pontiac Community Hospital Foundation, or the Immaculate Conception Parish in Bryson.
A private Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, May 6, 2021 in Immaculate Conception Church, Bryson, Quebec at 11 a.m. Interment to follow at the Parish Cemetery.
