Obituary of Jean Gladys Beardsley
Jean Gladys Beardsley (nee McCredie) born Feb. 16,1927, died peacefully at the Renfrew Hospice, on Friday, February 26, 2021 at the age of 94. Predeceased by her loving husband, Eric. Loving mother, to sons, Barry (Lucille), and John (Ruth). Dearly loved and cherished by her grandchildren, Tracy (Peter), Joshua (Rebekah), Leah (Mark), Caleb (Natasha) Erica (Andy), Jordan (Julia), and Joel.
Beach Grandma will be sadly missed by her 14 great-grandchildren, Chloe, Katie and Ben, Rowan, Beckham, Bailey, Charleigh and Rypley, Titus and Ella, Josiah and Layla, Landon and Summer.
Jean was known for her quick mind, athletic ability, service to her community and especially being an outstanding curler since 1947. She was a past President and honorary member of the Granite Curling club in Ottawa where she represented Ontario at the Senior Women’s National Curling Bonspiel. Jean was a Past President and honorary member of the Senior Ladies International Curling Club held annually at the Chateau Montebello. In the Fall of 2019 Jean was inducted into the Legends Sports Hall of Fame in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada followed by an official plaque release in the City of Ottawa Sports Hall of Fame in February 2020 a most honorable cap to her over 70 years of curling involvement.
Jean loved her faith and church family at Grace Community Bible Church in Shawville and her many friends from the community. She loved her card games at Coronation Hall and didn’t like to lose. Each week Jean & Eric volunteered their time as drivers for the Cornerstone Children’s Group for many years.
She is the daughter of the late John McCredie and Lucy Graham and predeceased by brother Gordon (Rosemary) and Mary (Ron) Neff. She has many nieces and nephews too numerous to mention but loved by all.
We will miss her humour, her keen mind, friendship, hospitality and fun times at Norway Bay. Due to the Covid -19 restrictions a private celebration of life will be held, Saturday, March 13, at 11:00 am at Grace Community Bible Church, Hwy 148, Shawville, Quebec. A sincere thank-you to Jean’s wonderful and caring family doctor, Dr. John Kindle and all the staff at the Quail Creek Retirement Home where the staff went above and beyond the call of duty and lastly the exceptional staff at the Renfrew Hospice.
A private interment will be held at a later date at the Norway Bay Cemetery.
