Obituary of Dora Buckley (nee Angus)
It is with profound sadness we announce the death of Dora, who passed away peacefully in London, Ontario, on Sunday, January 31, 2021 at the age of 88 years.
Dora was the loving wife of the late Arthur Buckley, with whom she enjoyed 56 years of love and adventure before he passed away in 2008. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her, including her daughter Lynda, and her son-in-law Paul, her son Dale and her daughter-in-law Linda. Dora was also beloved “Nan” to her granddaughters Lisa (Antony), Shannen (Omar), Amanda, and Elaine (Mark), and treasured “G-Nan” to her great-granddaughters Laura, Olivya, and Audra. She is predeceased by her much-loved grandson Alan, brothers Nelson (Terry) and Duncan (Enid), her mother Ella (Palmer) and her father Norris.
An ardent reader and marathon shopper, Dora was a kind and gracious woman who loved entertaining family and friends with her considerable cooking and baking skills. Although born and raised in Shawville, Quebec, Dora was a military wife for many years and lived across Canada and Germany before settling down in Saint John, New Brunswick, where she and her husband enjoyed summer camping, weekly card parties, and volunteering with the Korea Veterans Association. Later years took Dora and her husband to Cornwall, Ontario, where they were active in the senior citizens community. Her remaining years were spent in London, Ontario. Even after losing her adored husband, Dora remained filled with a zest for life, whether that was getting her ears pierced (for the very first time!) in her eighties or hopping on a cruise to Alaska, the Caribbean, or the Panama Canal.
She was truly one of a kind. In the words of Shakespeare, we “shall not look upon her like again.”
A memorial service will be held at Hayes Funeral Home in Shawville, Quebec on Saturday, July 3, 2021 at 11 a.m. Interment Maple Grove Cemetery. Online condolences may be left at hayesfuneralhome.ca
