Fond memories of Mae at the Tracey farm, included euchre parties, sleigh rides, fiddle music, and sledding. On more than one occasion we would go sledding over at Michael Foran's in the hood of an old car, ErvIn picking us up with his snowmobile Then it was back home for a hot meal that Mae helped us prepare. Mae took on the role of mother at Ruby's wedding and the next year
when Donald and I had planned our small unannounced wedding, Mae spotted Dad, Thomas and Mary Margaret passing by on main street all dressed during hunting season. She quickly put it together and her and ErvIn were waiting for us outside the church. While we went for dinner she and ErvIn planned a party.. What a party ! We will never forget it. Imagine planning a house party in an hour.. Their door was always open, for a hot meal or after a late night at Gavans or Fairbanks when we needed a bed. Condolences to the McCann and Foran families.
Hugs, Donald and Maureen

So hard to imagine Quyon without aunt Mae. She was the true embodiment of the Irish values that so many of us hold near and dear to our hearts - the laughter, the music, the stories, the kindness, the togetherness. She was a role model and life teacher to so many of us young girls. She took a genuine interest in the lives of all of us Quyon youngsters, wanting to know more about what was happening in our lives, even some young loves that might be happening - always with a smile and a comment that made us feel like we were getting things right. My personal gratitude to her will always remain her faith in me when I had absolutely none in myself that first night I worked at the chipstand that happened to fall on the first weekend of Quyon Centennial. I don't think I was ever so scared and I told her I should probably leave but she kept me going with that relaxed attitude that only she possessed. She will most certainly be missed by all of us but I think there is one happy gang in heaven right now and a party beyond all comparison. Brian, Dennis, Barry, Audrey, Sandra and Donald, I am thinking of all of you as your hearts heal during this difficult time.
Hugs and more hugs,

I want to offer my deepest sympathies to all you on the passing of Mae. Simply put, Mae was a wonderful, giving and kind woman who always greeted anyone in a very welcoming polite manner. More often than not it was “what can get yah”, as she spent much of her time behind the counter taking peoples food orders at the Chip Stand. She was very much a part of everyone who grew up in Quyon, as everyone new of her across generations. She will certainly be missed by anyone who had the privilege of meeting her. Deepest sympathy and much happy reminiscing to the McCann family. Mae’s personality and the chipstand were an important part of Quyon’s charm. It’s time now for us to say a prayer and the rosary for Mae. Mae hung the rosary on the clothesline for many a wedding day or important playoff ball game when there was rain in the forecast. She helped all when there was a hardship in our community. Rest In Peace for a special lady who deserves God’s best blessings!

Aunt Mae...front and centre on Main Street ...the heartbeat of the community. I was blessed to work alongside my Aunt Mae throughout my teen years and she taught me many great work habits, such as the importance of being on time, the ability to multi-task (especially during Ball Tournaments) but most importantly to always wear a smile and be kind to everyone, especially to those who didn't deserve it. She comes to mind often, like when I buy fries from a chip wagon I always seem to rate them in comparison to Mae's and I have yet to find any better. The sound of baseball games on the radio bring me back to those hot, summer Sunday afternoons in July working with Mae and she was glued to that static sound coming from the corner of the chip stand. I couldn't understand how she could enjoy listening to the game on a radio, with no idea where the ball was going after you heard it hit the bat and the crowd would go wild...she sure loved the game. To all the family, hang in there and know you are not alone in grieving this wonderful soul...she will me missed.
Love, Shannon, Mike, Shayla and Deklan Tremblay

To all the McCann family,
Please accept our sincere condolences in the loss of your beautiful mother. She is a legend in Quyon because of how kind and friendly she was to everyone. As teenagers, we hung around the chip stand sitting for hours at the picnic tables. Most businesses wouldn’t allow that but we always felt welcome but knew the unwritten rule to move away when customers came. Mae had a heart of gold and was the first one to offer help when someone was in need. She will certainly be missed in the community.

This is so difficult to accept and my heart is very heavy. Josey and I and family are so sorry to hear of Mae's passing. I'm not surprised at the seemingly non-ending list of condolences and tributes. Mae touched so many, many lives. I loved my Aunt very much and even after all these years, she will still be missed ever so much. I am grateful that I had an opportunity to have a good visit with her over the phone back in January. Little did I know that would be the last chat. We have so many fond memories of visiting Ervin and Mae and our cousins in that beautiful big house in Quyon and their visits to the Sudbury area. I also treasure the memories of living with Ervin and Mae and family in the summers of 1973 and 1974 and working in the chip stand, although I wonder how many times I only got in the way (haha)!! I am attaching a photo of Mae and my Mom at that time while preparing an order, or two, or six or seven!! I was so proud of McCann's Chips and all anyone ever had to say was that they came from or visited the Ottawa Valley area and I would open right up about my Aunt and Uncle's chip stand. To this very day, the aroma of French fries in the deep fryer takes me back to Quyon and those days. And now, it so sadly seems that a great era has come to an end with Mae's passing. But we are all so very grateful for knowing Mae, and are much blessed and enriched as a result of her impact upon our lives and the memories we will continue to treasure. In October of 2004, Josey and I had the wonderful opportunity of travelling to Quyon and what a wonderful thing it was for Josey to meet Mae. Mae welcomed us with love and open arms and had a delicious dinner and birthday cake for Josey - even though we were a day late in arriving! To Brian, Dennis, Barry, Audrey, Sandra and Donald and families, and the Foran families, we will be thinking of you and praying for you. I know with my heart and soul that our Dear Lord will say to Mae, "Well done". Sincerely, Doug, Josey and the Ontario McCann's

It is like most others have said already.......Mae was a terrific and giving person, and she had such energy, even in the later years. We all knew Ervin and Mae back at Wolf Lake....as a young lad I was at the McKenny farm where there were lots of parties. And for many of the parties Ervin played fiddle along with many others. So I knew them well.
However, decades later if we dropped by the Chip Stand, Mae still knew us even though we were 30 years older. Her memory was certainly better than mine. And such a pretty lady.
Condolences to the Foran and McCann families, and if there is a Heaven I'm sure she there. She will be missed by many. Say Hi to everybody up there for us, Mae!.

I am truly saddened by the loss of the wonderful Mae McCann. I fondly recall the first time I met Mae. It was a beautiful summer day over 30 years ago. Learning in advance that I was coming to Quyon for a visit, she had made two of her delicious homemade pies even though she was working full-time in the chip stand. Moments after pulling into the driveway, she came out of the chip stand and in her ever so approachable manner, welcomed me by shaking my hand and told me that she heard I would be visiting and had made two pies because she wasn’t sure what my favourite would be – she then took a short break while we went inside for a visit … I enjoyed her delicious pie and a cup of tea. It is one of those forever memories and it showed me, even back then in my early 20s, that she was a woman who truly cared, thought of others, and took the time to show it.
Over the years, I was blessed with her friendship and grateful that she was such a loving and kind grandmother to Caitlin and Aidan. She was at the hospital with us the night Caitlin was born and was very excited to share the birth news with the family.
Mae will forever be in my heart and her kind, loving and welcoming ways will be always be cherished and remembered.

Her love for her family was evident in all she did and she was fiercely proud of each one of you. Mae was one of those individuals that once met you had a lifetime friend. With sincere sympathies, Brian Beattie - Stittsville.

Mae (Brian's Mom) was such a fun loving person.
Up til a few years ago she ran McCann's Chips for about 40 years. She was the hub of Quyon, Quebec. She was a mover and a shaker.
Unfortunately in recent years she had dementia. Up until then I had some fun rides, fairs and shopping trips with her. So sad to see a thriving person go like that. My own Mom had Alzheimers for years so to see Mae start like that just broke my heart.
She fell, broke her hip and didn't recover.
Mae we will have a drink in your honour. May those Irish angels come and swoop you away to a better place.
Love always! ❤❤❤❤

Oh my goodness..... so many memories... visiting Kay with my mom in her house, going to get chips in the yellow trays... they always tasted better in those ❤️. To getting my first job and she sent me home with $20 in various denominations to learn how to count change... how many did she teach? I also remember one year as opening was always Easter weekend and I ordered a hamburger and she reminded me it was Good Friday and I might want to rethink my order.... she taught me skills that I still use to this day... my heartfelt condolences to the family....

Mae was well known for her fries, but my favorite was her egg rolls with plum sauce along with her fries.
You were always greeted with a personal greeting and some chit chat while waiting for the food. Mae was an icon of the village and many people passing through. Many the times when telling someone I was from Quyon, their response was oh that’s where you get the best fries ever.
She will be missed by many friends and family. My sincere condolences to Audrey, Sandra, Donald, Brian, Barry & Dennis.
RIP Mae
