Lois, Emma, and ALL of Beth's family: We have numerous happy memories of Bertha, Russell and family. On the 28th of Sept./1972; I was packing corn silage in the "Mee's" pit silo and as usual, Bertha was preparing a "feast" for the the "corn silage" gang as Russell was chopping in the field. Everyone was eagerly awaiting dinner when Russell appeared. We all thought he must be "broke down" because that was the only time he stopped except for meals. Russell came to me and said, "you better go home right now because Jeannie has to go to the hospital!" I replied that I would go right after dinner,(I didn't want to miss "the feast". Russell said "go now"; Jeannie needs you! I went home and drove Jeannie to the "Grace" in Ottawa where nurses and the Dr. were waiting to deliver our first child. In '72; father's were not allowed to even watch their child be born, but we're escorted to the waiting room were everyone was watching a hockey game. Every few minutes the Dr. popped in to check the score. About the time that Paul Henderson scored the winning goal which gave Canada the win over the Russian hockey team; Jeannie's Dr. came in, asked the score, and announced that we have a healthy baby boy (Scott)! Everyone thought we should have called him "Paul" but we all call him Scott! I never did find out whether Bertha served roast beef or pork chops to go with the mashed potatoes, gravy, home made bread, vegetables, and your choice of 4 different pies with hot tea.

My sincere sympathy to you, Lois and Erma and your families. Bertha was a special Mother. You have been blessed to enjoy her guidance and love for so many years. Bertha had a special smile and glow about her. remember getting to know Bertha better when I washed her feet at Mabel’s. We both laughed so hard. May all of your special memories comfort you as you celebrate a life well lived.

My condolences on this loss for everyone. How wonderful and rare for one to enjoy their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren for so many years! I have great memories of Bertha & Russell for many years in our church, and visits from grandkids always made those Sundays extra fun (and sometimes loud, Greg)! Blessings to you all as you celebrate this life of faith well lived!
