I became a member of the Rotary Club of Shawville in 1998, and John was the president at the time, and so was my first president, though not my last. Indeed, over the succeeding 21 years while I was a member of the club, before moving to Nova Scotia, he was my president several more times, but I always thought of him as "my first president."
John and I shared many enjoyable times together over the years, and became good friends in the process. Mind you, John was a very easy person to like, and to get along with, and I shall miss him a great deal, as well as his wonderful life-companion Marilyn Plouffe. My heart goes out to her and the grief she must be experiencing at the loss of her devoted best friend of 51 years.
There will always be a special place in my memories for my special friend and fellow Rotarian. God took John home to find his heart's ease next to his Lord, and I just pray that I'll get a chance to share his company, and that of all the others who went ahead, once again. Goodbye for now, old friend.
With love, David and Kathleen Harper

Our family would like to send our deepest sympathies to Jack's family and friends. We had the pleasure of meeting Jack on his visit to Ireland in July 2015. He was such a lovely man with a smile that would light up a room, we sure he will be deeply missed by all that had the opportunity to know him, if even only briefly.

Marly'n and all John's family: I will always remember John's smile and wave when we regularly passed their house. John was always interested in what farmers were doing in the neighbourhood' he was one of those "gentle, giant, super community men" who seemed to be there when help was needed! Please accept our sincere condolences,
