Obituary of Robert Allen Eiswald
Robert Allen Eiswald passed away at the age of 91 years, on Tuesday, August 25, 2020 in the Gatineau Hospital.
Robert was born to Arthur Eiswald and Aurore Giroux on January 8, 1929 in Montreal. He trained as a Steamfitter/Pipefitter and worked all over Canada including the far north, constructing the infrastructure that was to become the Distant Early Warning Line (DEW) Line during the Cold War era. He also worked on the construction of the pulp and paper mill outside Portage-du-Fort and remained on after completion as a Steamfitter. He was passionate about his role in the United Association, Local 071 that began in 1954 and served as an executive for many years representing his fellow workers. He enjoyed bowling, curling, fishing and spending time at the cottage.
Robert is survived by his partner Jacqueline Dubeau, his daughters and son-in-laws Roxanne (Joseph Perrier), Janice (Cecil Emerson), Jane, Dianne (Brian Girard) and his grandchildren Rachel, Hunter, Jessie, Tyler, Shealyn, Sierra and Sloan. He is predeceased by his wife Gertrude McCallum, his son Robert, parents Aurore and Arthur Eiswald, sister Mildred White and nephew Michel White.
The family wishes to thank staff at the Hull and Gatineau hospitals for their care and compassion during his hospitalization and the Hayes Funeral Home for their guidance during this difficult time.
Graveside service will be held on Monday, August 31, 2020 at St. James the Greater Cemetery, Portage-du-Fort, Quebec at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.
