You often wonder, "when I pass on, will anyone remember". SInce hearing the sad news, I have had nothing but a ton of memories of John.
Granted, most are memories of our youth, but many others of a friend who was always there when I would meander back home. Memories that always bring a smile. I will miss him......

So sad! John always served as a bit of an anchor for me, as I spent less time in Shawville. When I would see him, he would always get me caught up on the latest Shawville news - and crack a few jokes. As others have said, he was very gregarious and always put a smile on peoples' faces. My sympathy to the family and his many, many friends.

Hi Linda, Kristen, Ruth and Les,
My deepest sympathy on the loss of John (the big K). I know he will be truly missed by his family, but he will also be missed by hundreds if not more friends. I have known John over 50 years and totally enjoyed his friendship and especially his joke telling. We played ball together for a number of years (you remember those) and partied for more (remember baseball in Montreal). Every time I returned to Shawville I would always go to the bar to see John and hear some stories. Linda, when we talked on Friday and I mentioned the Grey Cup in Toronto, it is the same one Don McColgan referred to. I could go on much longer in my memories (I can talk a lot) of John as I am sure many others can. Not only was John liked by those who came in contact with him, I cannot remember anyone ever having a negative thing to say about him, a most remarkable quality very few have. I will really miss John but will enjoy the memories. Take care and I will definitely have one today for John.

I first got to really know John at a Grey Cup in Toronto. We knew each other casually from hockey in Shawville, but when we met in Toronto, I got to know the real John. My brother and I had tickets to the Grey Cup and we were staying at a different hotel. John and a friend came over to our hotel, picked up our luggage and told us to come to their hotel.
John was the type of guy who always made you feel like you were his best friend, any time he saw you.
Sincerest sympathy all of John's family and friends, a Great Loss.
Don McColgan.

Linda, Kristen, Ruth, Les and families. My deepest condolences to you all. I was fortunate to work with the "Big Rad" for 16 wonderful years. They were full of jokes, stories, music trivia but most of all, an abundance of friends and patrons who could not wait to come and chat with the great Johnny K and have a beverage. From Canada to USA, Johnny was a legend, self-made. It was his passion, his legacy, his love. He will forever live in the hearts of those who benefited from his kindness, friendship, love and generous giving heart. Never wanting to turn away anyone or group in need. My heart is heavy with sadness but gratitude, for I got to share the love this man had for his family and fellow mankind. I hope heaven has a guitar for you to entertain them all Johnny.
