Dear Frederick, Barbara, Jonathan and families: I was so very sorry to hear of the passing of Jim, and very sorry to miss the memorial service today. It seems like yesterday that you all visited us at the Derby farm, c. 1978,just before school and the fall were starting. I'm sure you had stopped in at George and Lorna's beforehand. You were a lovely young family back then, and the testimonials I've read online indicate Jim carried on in the same manner. Please know I am thinking of you all and praying you find some comfort in such a difficult time. Love and prayers from the Derby cousins.

A man like him.
If I were to describe a man like Jim Howard it would go something like this:
A positive, kind, friendly, interesting and down- to- earth type of guy.
It didn’t matter if you were a stranger or if you were someone he knew well. He would always treat you as if you were his longtime best friend. You couldn’t help but feel comfortable around him. Conversations with him were always interesting and engaging.
He was an old honest soul who had the best stories. He always seemed to know the right things to say to help brighten your mood.He could make you smile no matter how much of a bad mood you were in.
He also always believed in you more than you believed in yourself. He was the sun to our rainy days.
He will be missed.
A man like him. A man like Jim Howard.

Dear Natalie, Jeryka and Jacksyn and family.
I knew Jim through my brother John Peck. Jim would drop by John's and together they would be laughing, and talking about old times and what they were going to get up to tonight. The contagious energy would spark throughout whatever room he entered and you would soon be engulfed in his excitement for the moment. Everything was exciting to Jim and that's what made him so much fun to be around. I was glad when my brother, John and his wife Angie had Jim and Natalie's family up to his cottage in Danford Lake. It had been awhile since I'd seen him and he was looking great - smiling and laughing with his family down at the lake. So nice to see. I had taken a few pictures of them and hope that I can find one or two to put them up here. I know that Jim's wishes would be to live life to the fullest every day that you can - because you never know when your ship is going to come in. My brother said that Jim went on trips with his family all the time. He put them first - always! He obviously had his priorities straight!
Your loss is great! He will be so missed by everyone! I know my brother and his family will be there for your support - as I know their hearts will be aching with yours as well as everyone else's.
I'm sure I can hear Jim saying now "Thank you for all the great times that we shared together! What a blast! Oh yes, and if you need me - just look up - cause I'm smiling down at you - and oh by the way.... I'm ready to go wherever you're off to! See you all soon - all my love - Jim!"
God's Speed Jim!

Natalie, my deepest regrets to you and your family. What a huge loss...Jim was the
definition of a "great" guy. Always willing to help and always so positive. I fondly
recall him helping at many of my workshops at King's-Edgehill in Windsor NS. He was a joy to work with and we always had many many laughs. I can still remember when all of you stayed at our cottage at White Point - so appreciative and so easy to please. I remember you pulling into our other cottage on Silver Rock Rd. just as you were heading back home. I think that may have been the last time I saw Jim. We were very fortunate to have him as a friend and colleague. I will fondly remember that smile and his kindness. I feel very lucky to have known him.

Bonjour Jim, c'est un très grand honneur de t'avoir connu et côtoyé. Quelle grande personne tu as été.

Lots of great memories of Jimmy from back in our high school days: Being on the senior team football "taxi squad" in grade 9 and winning a couple of provincial championships; Going on canoe trips with Jimmy in Sea Scouts; Aylmer dances in grade 7; riding dirt bikes in the back trails on Aylmer or riding up to Luskville and doing some haying on the farm; riding bikes in to Aylmer with Hylton, meeting up with Jimmy and causing all sorts of trouble; A great trip to Auxerre in France and scribbling our names on the Eiffel Tower....
What a nice, gentle, fun-loving person - and my life was all that much more fun for having had him in it! Thanks Jimmy.
Condolences to his family.

Coach has left more than memories for a lot of people who are privileged to have him a part of their lives. He was my friend my coach and my mentor. He was always there for all of us when we needed him and did everything in his power to give his boys every opportunity for success. I was definitely a pain in his ass but he never doubted me and regularly told me that I could be anything I wanted to be but nothing good comes from sitting around talking about it. Jimmy helped me through some tough times and taught me that making a difference in others lives is good for the soul. Like the rest of his friends and family, I will miss him but never forget him.

At one of the annual United Church Anniversary High Teas, I was serving and pouring tea. Jim brought Jeryka and two of her friends to the tea; three well dressed little ladies. It was wonderful to see how focused Jim was on the girls, talking them through the whole tea etiquette process. As the girls were drinking tea he was telling them, “Pinkies up, pinkies up!”
