Obituary of George Elgin Graham
Peacefully, on Saturday January 19, 2019 in hospital, Shawville, Quebec at the age of 82, Elgin went to his heavenly home. Elgin was a gentle, loving soul, with a playful spirit. He reminded his family often that he loved them and continually said to “Count your blessings”.
Born June 27th, 1936 to George Hillis Graham and Isabelle Richardson Bevan. Weighing only 3 lbs 6 oz., Elgin’s life was a miracle and thus he was named after Dr. Carson.
Elgin, the eldest of 8 children, was raised in a loving Christian home on the family homestead in Wyman, Quebec. At the early age of 18, he began his career with the Bank of Montreal where he later retired after 40 years. Elgin married the love of his life, Rilla Margaret Stanger, on August 13th, 1960. They remained faithful to one another throughout 58 years of marriage. He was the loving father of Brian (Dale Richardson), David (Carole Lalonde), and Heather, and proud Poppa of Jeffrey, Nicole, Matthew, Richard & Mackenzie.
Predeceased by infant sister Phyllis and brother Jack (Charlene Mulligan).Survived by siblings Doug (Janet Fraser), Lorraine (Gord Cave), Laird (Gayle Wright), Ruth (John Beardsley), and Bevan (Susan Clarke).
Elgin enjoyed special moments with his siblings, singing hymns around the piano. He loved nature, animals, and many fun times were spent with family and friends in Bradenton, Florida and Little Danford Lake, Quebec.
Elgin lived a generous life, filled with love and laughter. He will be greatly missed by all.
Friends may call at Hayes Funeral Home, 134 Centre Street, Shawville, Quebec on Tuesday, January 22, 2019 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. There will be no visitation on service day. Funeral Wednesday, January 23 in Shawville United Church, 410 Main Street, Shawville at 11 a.m. Interment will be held at Norway Bay Cemetery at a later date. Family would like to express their appreciation for the loving care received from the CLSC. In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated to the Shawville United Church or the Pontiac Community Hospital Foundation.
