Obituary of Phyllis Ellis

Phyllis Ellis, wife, mother, grandmother, was born May 19, 1931 in Ogdensburg, NY. She died peacefully Thursday April 10, 2014 in Shawville, Quebec of heart failure, at the age of 82. Phyllis grew up in Shawville, Quebec, in the very difficult years of the 1930’s and 1940’s when family and community were critical for daily life. She was often found busy working at the family restaurant serving hungry patrons from around the Pontiac, with her sisters Marjorie, Joan (deceased) and brother Bill (deceased). She left Shawville for Ottawa to receive her teaching degree and went on to teach elementary school in Ottawa and London. Phyllis was an avid reader and loved to play the piano. She had a very caring heart towards all people but really enjoyed being with and teaching children. Phyllis was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, David W. Ellis. She will be sadly missed by her son Stewart (Sharon) and daughter Jennifer (Peter Eaton) and grandchildren, Philip and Malcolm. Phyll’s family and many friends both in Shawville and London will remember her loyalty, commitment to family, and sense of humor. Thank you to all who visited her and supported her in those last few difficult months. Thank you to Dr. Wootton and all the staff at the Shawville Hospital who helped with Phyllis’s care.
