Dear Blythe, Joyce, Jill, Bill, and families. Carmen and I send our deepest condolences at the loss of your mother. She was a mom for me on many occasions. One could hardly have penned in fewer words a more fitting obituary to describe her life. And let it be said, the elderly are entitled to be less filtered! Pearl was an active and valued member of the Pontiac Historical Society where she served on the Executive Committee and as a volunteer in the Pontiac Museum. She schooled us "younger" members on the importance of being self-reliant and keeping things simple, and could be counted on to give practical advice. She will be remembered for her many years of service in the field of local history. On behalf of all our members, sincere condolences to her family.

When your 98 year old neighbour calls to tell you about her butterflies, you listen. And if you want to see one, then you need to be there the next morning before 8 am.
Pearl said that once the butterfly emerged from the chrysalis after sunrise and their wings were dry, then she needed to take them outside, to let the butterfly fly away.
Her son, Bill, had supplied her with the caterpillars that were ready to go through the next phase in their life cycle. This gave Pearl so much pleasure this past summer.
Pearl handed me the butterfly as we stood on her step.
The black swallowtail left my hand as soon as she set it down. Like life, it was gone in an instant.
Pearl loved all her family and appreciated their support that allowed her to live her life under own terms, to the end.
I will miss my neighbour, Pearl, whose endless curiosity was a marvel to the rest of us. Dulcie Elliott
