Our sympathies to the Perry family. My father and I were fortunate to have chatted with Ellard at the PPHS reunion this past July. I remember him tuning in the Canada/Russia hockey games in September 1972 in our science class. That same year, he booked an airplane at Uplands airport for our class to visit the Ottawa Valley. A very creative teacher. We will keep you in our prayers.

Dear Kathryn, Tim, Paul, Aaron and your families,
We are so very saddened to hear of your great loss. One is never prepared for the passing of a loved one. Ellard was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and a friend to many. He was an exceptional principal during the years that David and I taught at PHS. Hardworking, compassionate and fair, he also had a great sense of humour. Ellard was a special person who has left a strong mark on our community. He will be missed by many.
Please know we are thinking of all of you and sending prayers and thoughts of deepest sympathy, as you journey through this very difficult time.

Dear Kathryn, Tim, Paul, and Aaron and your families
My sincere sympathy to each of you. Ellard was such a wonderful man. I was lucky to call him my friend since the day when the Waltham boys came to SHS. Ellard had an infectious smile and loved to laugh. When I heard that he was Principal at PHS I knew that there would be strict morale rules but Ellard would be fair and help many students to enjoy their HS days.
Kathryn and Ellard were just the perfect couple. I loved listening to Kathryn playing the piano and Ellard singing. Ellard was such a kind, caring man. A visit to Shawville was even better when I had the opportunity to see Kathryn and Ellard. I am so sorry that I cannot be there in person but I will be with you in spirit. May all of your cherished memories help to console you as you celebrate Ellard and his special life. We know that he is safe in the arms of Jesus.

Hi Kathryn and your boys,
Dorothy and I are so sad to hear of Ellard's passing. We knew that he had some serious health issues but were unaware of the severity. As you know, we do not get to Shawville much any more following Lillas's death. But during our frequent visits in years past, I was privileged to meet Ellard and to appreciate his optimism and joy of living. He was one special man and the world is poorer for his departure. Knowing your faith, I am sure that he is in a special place and that will give you comfort in your time of distress. Please accept our sincerest sympathies.

Know that we are praying for you guys in the days that are ahead. Ellard was one of those guys who occupies the best memories of my mind. From his watchful eye at Zion Hill Camp...to those simple moments of taking the time to chat with me in my youth...Ellard had a way of making all feel so special. He was an example of Godliness for me as long as I can remember. His kindness helped form a foundation for my life. I'm grateful to God for Ellard. I love that promises of Jesus...we don't grieve as the world grieves! Ellard is home! That assurance is such an incredible catalyst of peace in the midst of the valley. Know that my prayers will continue from my family to yours.

Joyce and I are deeply saddened to hear of Ellard's passing. The last time we spoke to him in May 2018, he was in good spirits and thankful for his life's blessings. You and your family have gone through so much sorrow the last year/months and having known your family for so many years, we mourn Ellard's passing with you. He fought a courageous battle to the end. Despite the sorrow of losing him, we can be assured that his memory and his devotion to life as a teacher, husband, father and dear friend, will forever endure. I am so sorry to hear of your great loss. Recently I lost my dear mother, and within
30 days I also lost my mother-in-law. What helped us during this time period was the comfort from the Holy Bible, like at Isaiah 25 verse 8 - "The Sovereign Lord will
swallow up death forever, and wipe away the tears from all faces." Also at
Revelation 21 verse 4 we find God's promise to remove both pain and death.

Kathy and family,
Please accept our condolences on the death of such a wonderful man. I am sending you love and hugs and wish I could have come up to deliver them in person. When I am in the area I will try to stop in to the house. You know Ellard and I go back to when I was 4 so when he was my teacher in high school he did not show favorites. lol When I was in my senior year first day before classes I got caught with a cigarette in the girls washroom by Mrs. Armstrong. She took me to Ellard. He read me the riot act and that he would be calling my Mom and I had to do a 3000 word essay on "The Importance of Obeying the Rules and Regulations Within the School System and How it Helps us When We are in Society.". The title could not count towards the words either. lol That was more than 40 years ago and I will never forget it. I went home told Mom and he never called. The next day he said he knew I would do the right thing. I was disappointed in me for letting him down but ended up working as a legal assistant for 22 years. The lesson took. He will be missed.

Your loss is one that the whole community shares. What a great man Ellard was! He used to regale the ladies in my boutique of his days at Pontiac High as my teacher, and he prided himself that he even remembered where I sat in his class. He loved the green spearmint leaves, and would walk around the store sharing them with the ladies. In the last couple of years, he stayed away from the candies but he came in for a hug - we usually both needed one! I will miss his humour, his visits, and his great stories. Good-bye dear friend. I am so sad to learn of Mr. Perry’s passing, he was an amazing Principal, someone I turned to for advice, and guidance. I still remember as a new grade 7 student (day 3 of high school), I had quickly realized after only 2 days that Typing class was not for me, so off I went to the office to try to change to another optional course. Mr. Perry sat across from me, and said “the only other option at that same time block is wood working”. I quickly said, great I will take it. He laughed at me, and said “no”. I didn’t know why he was saying no, and begged him to let me quit typing and switch to wood working. He laughed his big laugh, and said, I know why you want to take wood working, you just want to be with the boys! So no, I won’t put you in wood working, but I will give you a spare... use it wisely! Lol (not sure how he knew me so well on day 3), but I enjoyed my spare! He was a very special man, who touched so many of us Pontiac youth! Rest In Peace, your work on earth is done, but your influence on thousands of students will continue on. Thoughts and prayers with his family.

My sincere heartfelt condolences to Kathryn and family . Ellard was the most wonderful man who lived everyday in faith . I will never forget the fellowship and ministry he gave my father when he was in palliative care . It truly gave us comfort in our time of need . May you take comfort in knowing that he is now with the Lord .

Our heartfelt condolences to Kathryn, Tim & Rachel, Paul, Aaron & Heather & families. Ellard was so very proud of his family. Ellard was my Principal, later my boss, painted for me and later was my gym buddy and good friend. He was always cheerful and full of fun. He will be missed by so many and his memory will live on....our community's loss but Heaven's gain.....

Ellard lived at our family home, (Saunders), when he taught in Prescott. He was a great friend and support to Viola,(who had recently lost her husband), and Arlene,(her young daughter). His great sense of humour and his deep faith were both comforting and uplifting during his time in the Saunders home. We remember him for his kind and generous spirit. Prayerful sympathy to his family.
