Obituary of Merrill Francis Allard

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Merrill Allard on August 4th 2018 in his 89th year.

Merrill leaves behind the love of his life married for 66 years to Patricia (Chugg) . Devoted father of Mary-Kate (Allan Duff), Anne (Rick Huxtable), Teresa (Andre Cloutier) John-Paul (Jennifer Trimm), Adele (Robert Varner), Pat (Janet Cadieux), Mike, the late Danny (Carol Ann Gagnon), Christine (Bobby Gallagher) Colleen (late Andrew Gribbon), Jennifer (Darwin Groskleg). He was loved and adored by his 30 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Merrill had a special place in his heart for Mom’s brothers and sisters, Margaret Anne Kearns (Chugg), Hector and Barbara Chugg, Jimmy Chugg (deceased) (Marina Hearty), Caroline (deceased) Murray Manley, Evelyn (Bob Lacroix). Also much loved sister in law Grace (spouse of Jimmy Allard). Merrill is predeceased by his parents Aime Allard and Clara Raymond and his siblings Rita, (late Bill Poirier), Maurice (late Bernice), Henry (late Mary), Jimmy (Grace), Remi (late Helen), Edgar (late Hélène), JB (late Elva), Aline (late Buddy Gagnon)  and Loretta.

Merrill’s working career began at the young age of 15 portaging hay and grain to the lumber camps, cutting and skidding logs, mining in Levac Ontario, full time farmer, he also worked on the construction of the Interprovincial Bridge, co-owner construction with his brother Jimmy, president and chairperson of the Chapeau French school board, Lumber buyer for Fortin Industries, selling crop insurance every spring, testing cattle for Agriculture Quebec. He also held 8 years as a Municipal councilor. In retirement Dad enjoyed camping with Mom travelling from camp sites to camp sites.

The Allard family would like to thank the Pembroke Regional Hospital for their care and compassion to Dad. A very special thank you to the 3rd floor Medical Team.

Friends may call at the Hayes Funeral Home, 56 St. Jacques Street, Chapeau, Quebec on Tuesday, August 7, 2018 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 and on Wednesday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.  Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, August 8, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. in St. Alphonsus Church, Chapeau, Quebec.  In lieu of flowers,  donations to the Pembroke Regional Hospital Foundation, Meilleur’s  Residence or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
