Obituary of Durrell "Butch" Smith
Russell Durrell "Butch" Smith passed away peacefully with his family by his side on May 24, 2018 in his 79th year. Son of the late Reuben Smith and Jessie Durrell. Survived by his wife of 50 years, Karen Smith (nee Hearty). Dear father of Lisa (Roland Falasconi), Tricia and Tanya (Stephen Viau). He will be greatly missed by his sister Barbara (Don Mair) and brothers Brian (Joan) and Robert (Laurel). Predeceased by his sister Brenda. Forever remembered and cherished by his seven grandchildren Gemma, Matteo, Amalia, Ty, Jessie, Adam and Sarah. He worked and travelled for many years for the Woolworth Company and finally returned to his hometown of Shawville to raise his family, live on the farm and return to his roots. He was a Pontiac boy at heart. Taking over a local business and establishing the Ottawa Valley Office Supplies, he travelled the Ottawa Valley weekly. Butch was in his element in nature, fishing, hunting, even just watching and feeding the wild deer around home. He touched many lives and he will be dearly missed. Heartfelt thanks to the staff in the ICU/Soins Intensifs at the Hull Hospital in Gatineau for their compassionate care, in particular, special thanks to Dr. Jane Mathew. Friends may call at Hayes Funeral Home, 134 Centre Street, Shawville, Quebec on Tuesday, May 29, 2018 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. There will be no visitation on service day. Funeral will be held in Shawville United Church on Wednesday, May 30 at 11 a.m. Many thanks to Dr. Keith MacLellan for his care and friendship over the years. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Pontiac Community Hospital Foundation or the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
