Obituary of Gordon McCrea
Gordon McCrea, 99, of Pembroke, Ontario, formerly of Mentor, Ohio and Sheenboro, Quebec passed away peacefully surrounded by family at Marianhill in Pembroke on Wednesday, January 31, 2018. Gordon deeply impacted the lives of everyone who knew him. He was adored by family, loved by his neighbors, and always willing to help a friend or a stranger, no matter the situation. He will be missed by everyone and forgotten by none. Gordon was born January 22, 1919 in Sheenboro to Thomas and Margaret (nee Meehan). He was married to Marie (nee Perrault) for 63 years prior to Marie’s passing in 2016. They spent many happy years together and in 1984 retired and returned to Canada where they very much enjoyed summers at their cottage on the Ottawa River. Winters were spent in Arizona where they were visited often by family and friends. Gordon is survived by his brother, Robert of Connecticut as well as his two sons, James (Judy) of Brecksville, Ohio, and Patrick (Carson) of Shaker Heights, Ohio. He is survived by six grandchildren that he loved dearly, Ashley Showalter (Marty), Paul Byars (Jennifer), Jacquelyn, James, Ryan, and Laura. Gordon was also the very proud and loving great grandfather of Katherine, Evelyn, and Vivian. He is also survived by his son-in-law and third son, Mark Byars, of Atlanta, Georgia. Gordon was predeceased by his beloved daughter, Sandra McCrea Byars of Atlanta, Georgia and siblings Margaret, Guy, Joseph, Basil, Florence, Genevieve and Mike. Friends may call at the Hayes Funeral Home, 56 St. Jacques Street, Chapeau, Quebec on Sunday, February 4, 2018 from 2 to 5 p.m. and Monday from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Paul the Hermit Church, Sheenboro, Quebec on Monday, February 5, 2018 at 11 a.m. Interment Parish Cemetery. Donations to Marianhill would be appreciated.
